A speculation about freedom

An international team of actors, singers, musicians and creators, German Spanish and Catalan, come together for an innovative, trans-national music theatre experience. The setting is an office of a rather ambiguous nature, which becomes the centre for a debate about the limits of identity and freedom in a global world.

Office for post-identity life has been created uniting forces in Berlin and Barcelona with Òpera de Butxaca i Nova Creació and the Neuköllner Oper Berlin. Starting out from a debate about the limits of freedom in the contemporary world, the artistic team has created an experimental music theatre piece set in an office of a trans-national corporation with mysterious working regulations. Those who make up the work force, seven free-lance employees in a co-working space organized formally from the top down, struggle to carry their own personal projects forward in the middle of a work environment characterized by the crisis identity of a world that is every day more virtual and globalized. The piece takes the form of an evening event that is musical, poetic, humorous and at the same time philosophical, under the direction of Matthias Restock, a specialist in musical productions with a post-dramatic stamp. The texts are the work of the German writer, Tilman Rammstedt, and the Catalan playwright, Marc Rosich. The music and the videoart have been undertaken by the Catalan, resident in London, Raquel García-Tomás. Starting out from this base, the company asks where the individual, the “I”, finds a place in the middle of the whirlwind that is contemporary life. In the middle of this vortex the music of Beethoven appears as an echo, and under the deforming prism of the compositions of García-Tomás, reminding us of a utopian humanism that finds little place in our world today.
