Nou I_D tells us of those continually on the move, displaced people who live provisional lives; people in search of new opportunities and who, to reach their dreams, have to lose their past and adopt new identities.
ThE place of this dream is called Miticland, a static land with people attached to it.
In Nou I_D one person wishes to get in while another is trying to escape from this imaginary city. These two female characters together with the inhabitants of Miticland, become the information which flows through their technological arteries.
The persons on stage have their digital echo in the projections on screens and in sound. Through dance the two of them take on life and are able to express themselves.
The singing voice takes us through different situations and reflects the thoughts and emotions of the two protagonists.
The music oscillates between the abstract without emotions of the urban everyday and the pure emotion expressed through the singing voice which uncovers the expressive ruptures that the two feel in this environment.
In some scenes the sound makes use of elements of concrete music, creating compound settings of found sounds, sounds at times recognisable, at times processed, so that they remind the public of lived experiences and associations born of memory.
With the voice, these sound images take on a new dimension.
The sound composition takes place live based on pre-recorded and remixed pieces and open musical “cells” with which the performers interact, thus allowing a flexible and different interpretation of the sound universe in each performance. The instrumentation is digital; the voice is the only real instrument and it contrasts with the previously manipulated sounds of acoustic and virtual instruments.
For the voices of the soloists, the software mediation allows songs to be composed based exclusively on the human voice, multiplying it in a variety of layers of tonal values and timbres.
And the voices of the public, previously recorded, make up a choral mass of human voices of a multitude of identities.
The word and the singing thus become part of the digital device.
The sound is in surround and the public finds themselves immersed in an environment of generated sound.
The dramaturgy of the work should be understood as a pluri-narrative, a web of musical, choreographic, textual and multimedia languages, articulated by the performers live on the stage.
Interactive languages of communication favour a continual dialogue between the actions on stage of the performers and the analysis and interpretation of these actions through a technologic system of hardware and software.
The intelligence device, Terra i Vida, will make possible interactive communication between dance, voice, sound, video and 3D infographics. It is a mediator and augmenter of initial performative languages, so that the stage actions modify and influence the technological system and this modifies in turn with its reactions the action and decisions that are being produced on stage.
The choreography of the piece is devised for an augmented stage where the dance and movement of the performers serve as inputs for the technological device.
Nou I_D is constructed based on the analysis and application of multimedia systems which codify human gestures in real time in sound and visual expression. It is also based on how the mediation between the body and the computer establishes new patterns of communication.
In this process of analysis, the interface acts as mediation between the devices of a non-linear script.
