Go, Aeneas, Go!

“Go, Aeneas, Go!”, the new chamber opera by Òpera de Butxaca i Nova Creació, premiered on May 14, 2014 at the Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur at Berlin will be seen in November at the Teatre Lliure of Barcelona, after the brief season at the Neuköllner Oper in Berlin.

This is a continuation of the previous project from Spin Off Collective, “Dido & Aeneas Reloaded”, this time with original libretto and music, but based on the idea of a modern Aeneas, who wanders the European Union seeking to create another empire.

The tenor Joan Ribalta plays Aeneas, accompanied by mezzo Anna Alàs i Jove who gives voice to the many faces of European bureaucracy. With them, Cèlia Torres, cellist, and clarinetist Christian Vogel, as well as electronic music and video-creation.

“Go, Aeneas, Go!” is an award-winning project of the “Berliner Opernpreis 14 von Neukölln Oper und GASAG”, a Berliner contest to support new operatic creation that highlights emerging artists in order to produce an opera at the Neuköllner Oper.
